Photos from Arunachala, a very old mountain in Tamil Nadu. Tiruvannamalai is the city at the foot of the mountain.

Photos from the car, traveling from Tiruvannamalai to Chennai and on to Penusila in Andra Pradesh. Photos include countryside scenery, people, shops along the road. This is a view from the road from Tiruvannamalai to Chennai.

Photos from the roof of the dormitory at Amma Sri Karunamayi's Penusila ashram. This one is looking northeast.

Photos from the car, traveling from Penusila to Chennai. After the retreat. Many views of country, village, and small town life -- people, shops, livestock, dwellings.

Mammalipuram. This is a town on the coast an hour south of Chennai. Some very unique temples. Also an artist's college with very pesky students who want to sell you their artwork (rock carvings, paintings, etc.) at about 10 times as much as you pay in the gift shops for the same students' work.

Everything you see in this photo was carved from one big granite hill -- it's all part of the same rock under the sand. The temples are carved out inside, leaving columns and relief carvings of gods.
