Beached on the sound side at the south end of Ocracoke Island (in Teach's Channel). The trees in the far distance on the right are Portsmouth Island.

In Silver Lake harbor, Ocracoke, NC.

Also in Silver Lake.

And again, Silver Lake.

On Jordan Lake, NC.

A calm day on Jordan Lake. I had to build the little horns under the oarlocks to allow the port oar to clear the daggerboard case on the recovery. We typically leave the oars in the oarlock sockets, with the blades lashed (with velcro straps or bungie cords) to the mast partners. (See photo above.) The oars are in the way if we just throw them in the bottom of the boat.

An afternoon on Jordan Lake, NC.

Approaching Cape Lookout on Core Banks, NC (One of North Carolina's Outer Banks). Note the diamond-patterned lighthouse in the background. Also note that the sail is reefed -- to see a detail of the reef, click here.

2008 Governor's Cup on Kerr Lake, North Carolina.

Morning Glory, a Chesapeake 18 kayak. Plans and kits available from Chesapeake Light Craft.

This was soon after the boat was completed, before I painted the deck.

This is a "Wacky Lassie" built by my daughter with her middle school class. Plans available on Fritz Funk's website.

We had to bring the boat inside to paint it in December. Requires a very understanding wife. The flowers on Monrning Glory and Marigold (above) were also painted on in the living room.
