For sailors and boat builders -- one detail of the reef in a Windsprint sail.
|
A look at the tack of Otter's sail when reefed. The vertical line visible at the right is the tack line for a second reef. Note that I lashed the downhaul 6 inches back on the boom from it's usual (non-reefed) position, for balance (being a balanced lug and all), and that the sail wants me to move it back another foot. Bolger designed the small re-inforcing piece on the boom where it normally rides against the mast. For the way that my sail-maker put in the reefs, the piece should extend back on the boom another foot and a half. |
